In Search of Tenths

In Search of Tenths

It’s that time of year again, for me at least. One day left in the year and once again I am in search of the missing tenths.

For some reason every year I set cycling goals for myself – you know, more miles than last year, do well in some races – that sort of thing. Well here it is the end of December and once again yesterday I found myself a mile and a half short of my goal as I rolled into the subdivision on my last ride of the year.

As I negotiated the broken snow floor of my neighborhood rolling out the last mile I wondered how many miles of missing tenths there were lost in my bike computer. As I watched the storm clouds moving in I wondered what happens to all those extra portions of miles on my computer – the ones from the 24.7 or 43.2 mile rides the .” “ that are erased when I start my next ride.

Surely there are a couple thousand missing miles lost in there – or at least enough miles to prevent me from riding in snow to meet some meaningless goal!
